Keep Denton weird, right? Well, I don’t think we need to worry about that. The weird is there to stay. But this unique culture also lends itself to some original and creative restaurants, music, and events for Valentine’s Day. Here are few.
Valentine’s Day in Denton/Flo Mo can be broken up into any number of activities, but here are the ones I’m highlighting: Restaurants, Music, and Specialty.
Giuseppe’s Italian – Denton. This place is great. It’s in an old home, has nice little dining areas in different rooms, and the prices are very reasonable. From Ravioli to Manicotti, Chicken to Veal to Beef, this place has all the classic Italian dishes. Here is their website
Candy Haven – Denton. This is where we got the cupcakes for our wedding. They make some great cupcakes, cakes, chocolate covered strawberries, and-you guessed it-candy. This is a great place to pick up a gift for your girl.
Pazzo Woodfired Pizza – Flower Mound. This is a cute little place that has great food for a very reasonable price. The pizzas are tasty and very authentically made, and cooked by a wood fire The taste is tough to beat. They do have cooking shows always playing, but they accent the ambiance well.
Square One Sidewalk Cafe – Lewisville. This is a very casual place with really tasty food. Their focus is on quality, organic ingredients. They know what they are doing here, from stuffed spuds to soups to specialties. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food.
Asahi – Lewisville. If you love sushi, hibachi, or Asian cuisine, man…this is the place. I love, LOVE, their salmon sashimi and salmon roll. The hibachi is a great show as well, with chefs preparing your choices of dishes on the grill right in front of you. It is a little bit pricier ($20-$30 per person) but the food is stellar. I spoke with the owner, and one of their sushi chefs once prepared sushi for the British Royal Family. Wow!
GreenHouse Restaurant (Denton) has nightly live music.
Hailey’s Club, (Denton) though not the traditional music you may be looking for on V-Day, is going to have a strong list of bands.
For the kids, My Little Valentine Family Dance is at the Denton Civic Center. On February 8, 7:00-9:00 pm (for $5 in advance, $7 at the door) you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with the whole family! Children 12 and younger and their guardians are invited to attend an evening with a live DJ, dancing, refreshments and more. Sounds like a good ol’ fashioned fun time.
Movie Tavern – Watch a movie and eat at this place. Though the food is not “gourmet” maybe you can choose a romantic movie while you enjoy a cold beverage (they serve beer!).
Simply Fondue – Lewisville. It’s a little pricey, but unique, special, and fun. The food is always spectacular, and you never walk away hungry!
Whatever you choose to do in Denton/Flo Mo, just make sure you make it fun, romantic, and “Her-centered.” Make the night about your lady. If she loves Josh Groban, make a mixed CD and put it in your car before you leave. If she enjoys live music, go that route. If she really has been hinting that she wants to go dancing, then man, go dancing. This night (and most nights should be this way) is about her. And that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it, either.
Have fun out there!
