Jesus’ first words

Name-of-Jesus1

My wife and I are about 3 months into a study on the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. We focusing on the actual words and actions of Jesus. As I look back over the last 18 years of being a Christian, I have realized something. This is weird to admit – I’ve never done an extended, deliberate study on the life and words of Jesus. Never. That is strange, right? He is my Savior, my Lord, my Light, Life and my heart’s great Hope. And yet so little of my time, thought and study has gone into the life, death and words of Jesus.

Now, the other books of the New Testament delve deeply into this, but I wanted to pass onto you what we have been seeing and learning now that we are spending time listening to just Jesus. I like to think of myself sitting among the crowd during the Sermon on the Mount, standing at the door as the paralytic is healed, watching as the demon possessed are freed, standing on the shore as Jesus teaches from the boat. It has affected me. I see Jesus more clearly. He is truly an incredible man.

We have a Chronological Bible, and so it puts all 4 of the Gospels together into one continuous, comprehensive story. I will make it clear what Scriptures I’m using and try to pass on what we have seen and heard and learned, keeping Jesus’ words in red. I’m not a scholar or seminary graduate. I don’t speak Greek or Aramaic or Hebrew, and I know that my theology is not perfect. But I hope you come along with me. I want to know Jesus. I want to study His actual words and apply them. I want to feel His compassion and hope and patience wash over me. So let’s get going. Keep an eye out for regular posts on this topic, give me some feedback and thoughts, and I pray it is a blessing to you.

  1. So far so good.

With as much content as you already have on your blog, I really think you could get a lot of it published as a book at some point in the near future. Needs just a little bit of editing on grammar, punctuation, and occasional word choice. Not that I need to tell you this, just thought I’d reinforce and encourage you further to do so.

Really looking forward to checking out the restaurant when it opens.
